Airy, white boxed poplins and bold bangs are resurfacing with a new street style flair. This look is a modern take on a timeless style, inspired by none other than fashion icon, Audrey Hepburn.
I traded cigarette pants for two-toned denim from my favorite new brand—Just Black Denim, a company that manufactures jeans in LA using leftover denim material from big-name jean brands at an affordable price point.
The contrast of the two-toned denim and the shark bite hem with the boxy lay of the white bold collared, French Connection Rhoads Poplin Popover blouse captures the sophistication and feminine style of the classic white button down while adding an edgier twist to a classic piece.
One thing I love about the modern, more casual approach to the oversized white button down look is that it is so easy to rock in both the daytime and at night.
I styled the Poplin Popover and denim with a lace, natural colored House of Mirrors sneaker made by BC, an LA-based footwear company that focuses on effortless and comfortable fashion.
While this look was perfect for strolling around downtown, just a quick shoe swap and makeup touchup could take the outfit right into the evening.
I personally like to swap my sneakers in for a pair of metallic mule sandals. My favorite pair right now are the Dolce Vita Kaira Metallic mule shoes. They are the perfect statement shoe for the summer, adding a touch of shimmer perfect for a girls’ night out!
I’d also add a touch more eye shadow to create a bolder smoky eye and perhaps even a dark plum lip color to incorporate some dramatic flare.
A look like this allows me to feel a little like Audrey wherever I go!
This dress is a vehicle that transforms me into a mountaintop goddess. Clothes are not simply garments we use to cover ourselves; an outfit is an artistic creation with the power to evoke a feeling in its wearer that can transcend place and time.
When I first saw this dress, when I first ran my fingers through its blue chiffon pleats, my mind was transported to the mountains. The thought of how beautiful this dress would look blowing in the wind brought to my mind the image of a bird soaring above the Blue Ridge, its blue feathers complemented by the mountains and the sky.
Of course, this dress is by the brand Free People. Their style is classic, bohemian, and expressive. They love to play with different prints, textures, and silhouettes in their beautifully made clothing. The Free People girl is confident and adventurous, and this dress captures her spirit perfectly.
A garment evokes different images, associations, and feelings in each person. Everyone has the ability to work a garment into her own unique outfit that captures the essence of her own fantasy. When I wear this dress, I become a mountaintop goddess, ready to take flight.
